The Need

Reducing what you throw away, is the first step to saving the planet – collection, transport, and safe disposal, costs the partnership about Rs. 8,250/- for each ton handled, and the environment nearly a ton in CO2 Eq Emissions.
  • Around 13 MT of Municipal Solid Waste openly dumped on a daily basis at the area earmarked for a Waste Management Facility.
  • Inappropriate SOPs
  • Delay in execution of establishing a Resource Recovery Centre.
  • Disposal of waste dependent on rag pickers and itinerant scrap dealers.
  • A resultant pileup of 12,000 cu.ft. of unprocessed waste.
  • Micro-composting Centre of inadequate handling capacity and ill sited
  • Loss of resources.
  • Breeding of vectors, contamination of ground water, emission of greenhouse gasses
  • Escape of Plastics into watercourses
  • Human-Wildlife Conflict
  • Public outcry against the existing Micro-Composting Centre located in the heart of the town, with complaints rife about the stench and flies.
  • Litigation at the National Green Tribunal Level
