Feedstock Handling Rate (KPI-13)

Measures the weight in kilograms, the waste that is handled by all individuals involved in screening, homogenisation and windrow building, in an hour. Expressed as kg / person / hour

Averages in %

Averages by Weight

  • Acceptable average – > 500/ kg / person / hour.
  • True increase expected when segregation rate of waste delivered increases.
  • True decrease chiefly due to inadequate training, and electrical and mechanical failures.
  • Apparent decrease chiefly due to apathy and lack of supervision.
  • Train and re-train personnel and intensify supervision.
  • Periodical machinery maintenance.

Confounders

  1. Power failures and machinery breakdowns can cause inflated figures as the waste is subjected to composting without being pulverised
  2. Moisture content, bulk deliveries and single stream deliveries can cause a false association as the weight for volume ratio is altered.
